TMI / BUSINESS INTELLIGENCE + COMPANY OPERATING SYSTEM

MOST COMPANIES ARE
NOT DATA POOR. THEY
ARE VISIBILITY POOR.

The numbers exist. They are in the accounting system, the job files, the texts, the whiteboard, the spreadsheets and the owner’s head. What does not exist is one place where the company can see itself.

Show me what I cannot see ↗

We turn messy companies into intelligent companies.

THE TWO THINGS THAT ARE ACTUALLY BROKEN

THE DATA IS SCATTERED.
AND THE REPORTING IS A PERSON.

PROBLEM 01

NOTHING AGREES WITH ANYTHING

The accounting system says one revenue number. The job board says a different job count. The spreadsheet says a different margin. Inventory is a guess. Nobody is lying — there is simply no record that everything else has to agree with. So every meeting starts with an argument about whose number is right.

TWELVE SPREADSHEETS / THREE TOOLS NOBODY TRUSTS / ONE WHITEBOARD / NO SOURCE OF TRUTH

PROBLEM 02

REPORTING IS A HUMAN BEING

Someone spends the first three days of every month building the report. Or the owner assembles it in their head on the drive in. That means the company can only see itself as often as one person has time, and it can never see itself in the middle of a week when it matters.

MONTH-END SCRAMBLE / MANUAL EXPORTS / STALE BY THE TIME IT IS READ / ONE PERSON HOLDS IT

This is why dashboards fail in industrial companies. A dashboard on top of scattered records is a prettier version of the same argument. The record has to be fixed before the reporting means anything.

WHAT A COMPANY OPERATING SYSTEM ACTUALLY IS

SIX LAYERS.

Built in this order. Every layer depends on the one before it, which is why buying the top layer first is how companies end up with an expensive report nobody opens.

01

THE RECORD

One place where a job, a customer, a machine, a part, a truck and an employee each exist once. Not six systems with six versions of the same customer. Everything downstream is built on this, and nothing downstream works without it.

02

CAPTURE

The work has to record itself as it happens — on the floor, in the field, in the truck, at the machine. If capture depends on someone remembering to type it in at the end of the day, the data will always be late and always be wrong.

03

TRACEABILITY

Every job, part, cost, hour, change and approval traceable end to end. What was quoted, what was actually spent, who touched it, what changed, and when. This is what makes margin real instead of theoretical.

04

REPORTING

The company’s numbers, produced by the system rather than by a person. Job margin, utilisation, throughput, backlog, quote-to-close, cost per unit, cost per hour, cost per truck roll. Current, not month-end.

05

THE OPERATING RHYTHM

Numbers without a meeting are decoration. A weekly and monthly cadence where specific people look at specific numbers and make specific decisions — with the owner able to attend rather than required to run it.

06

INTELLIGENCE

Only once the five below it are real: forecasting, pattern detection, anomaly flags, AI that can answer questions about the business because there is finally something true to answer from.

WHAT GETS BUILT

THE THINGS AN OWNER
SHOULD BE ABLE TO SEE.

OPERATIONS

WHAT IS HAPPENING RIGHT NOW

JOBS IN PROGRESS / WHAT IS BEHIND AND WHY / CREW AND MACHINE UTILISATION / SCHEDULE VERSUS ACTUAL / BACKLOG AND CAPACITY / WHAT IS WAITING ON A DECISION / WHAT IS WAITING ON A PART / EXCEPTIONS THAT NEED A HUMAN

MONEY

WHAT IT IS ACTUALLY WORTH

MARGIN BY JOB / MARGIN BY CUSTOMER / MARGIN BY MACHINE OR TRUCK / QUOTED VERSUS ACTUAL / COST PER HOUR AND PER UNIT / REWORK AND WARRANTY COST / QUOTE-TO-CLOSE RATE / REVENUE AT RISK

And then the part most owners have never had: the ability to answer a question in a minute instead of a week, without calling three people. The company can be looked at instead of remembered.

WHY THIS IS THE PIECE THAT MATTERS

A COMPANY THAT
CAN SEE ITSELF.

Everything else TMI builds depends on this one. AI needs it, because a model with nothing true to read is a very expensive guess. Federal and defense work needs it, because traceability is the requirement. Succession needs it, because a buyer or a successor is really asking whether the company can be understood without the owner in the room.

An owner who has to assemble the truth personally is not the owner of the company — they are its reporting system. And a reporting system cannot take a month off, cannot be promoted, and cannot be sold.

This is what separates a business that runs on people from a business that runs on systems. Intelligence is not a dashboard. It is a company that knows what is true about itself without asking one person.

HOW WE BUILD IT

FIVE STEPS.

  1. 01

    MAP THE TRUTH

Where every number actually comes from today, who produces it, how often, and where it stops being reliable. This is part of the in-person audit.

  2. 02

    FIX THE RECORD

Define what a job, a customer, a machine, a part and an employee mean in this company, and build the one place each of them lives.

  3. 03

    MAKE THE WORK RECORD ITSELF

Capture at the point of work, in a form the floor and the field will actually use, because anything that adds ten minutes to a technician’s day will not survive.

  4. 04

    BUILD THE REPORTING

The numbers that change decisions, produced automatically, current, and readable by the people who have to act on them.

  5. 05

    INSTALL THE RHYTHM

The weekly and monthly cadence, who owns which number, and what happens when a number goes the wrong way. Then we hand it to your team and stay long enough to see it hold.

WHERE THIS FITS

THIS IS THE FLOOR
EVERYTHING ELSE STANDS ON.

If you are considering AI, a federal pipeline, a sale, a handover to the next generation, or simply getting the owner out of the middle of the company — this is the work that has to happen first.

This is the layer everything else stands on, which does not mean it has to be bought all at once. A dashboard or a quoting workflow is a real place to begin.
